Arsenic prevents dezincification of brass in aggressive fresh water at room temperatures. Additive nickel, arsenic and iron to aluminum brass enhance its resistance to dilute acids and alkalis. Brass containing more than 15% zinc in the cold-deformed state, prone to self-corrosion cracking in storage, especially in a humid atmosphere containing sulfur gases or ammonia. Brass products are produced in soft (annealed), semi-solid, hard state.
